The area of Kouvola and Kuusankoski started developing robustly as a result of the industrialisation and railway construction in the 1800s. The plentiful surroundings of the rapids, shaped by nature, offered the industrial sector new opportunities, and pulp and paper mills sprung up in the favourable environment. Thanks to the appeal of the paper industry, the region developed rapidly, and mills were consolidated. The growth increased the need to entertain international visitors and partners, due to which a modern club building suitable for the mill's own recreational use was soon called for.
The traditional main building came to house elegant dining and banquet halls filled with natural light and a charming coffee parlour complete with a bar. The architects idea also included an atmospheric stage raised a few steps higher than the banquet hall and used, since the building's completion, for the performance of music and plays as well as speeches. Outdoors, the building is flanked by an exceptionally beautiful terrace that looks over the river. On warm summer days, the terrace still allows visitors to experience unforgettable moments by the river running by. Nowadays, the restaurant is open to everyone who loves a good lunch. At other times, it is open by appointment.
